Handling units

Handling units are the physical carriers (boxes, pallets, containers) that stock moves with inside the warehouse. Putaway WMS tracks them so that multi-step workflows—receiving, putaway, picking, packing—remain consistent when a single logical line is split across several physical containers.

  1. Boxes — Smallest common carrier for piece picks and parcel flows.
  2. Pallets — Unit-load carriers used for bulk storage and movements.
  3. Containers — Intermediate or specialised carriers where your configuration uses them.
  4. Handling unit logs — Audit of handling unit lifecycle events (for example created, deleted, opened, sealed, unsealed, moved, added, removed) with user and timestamp; distinct from Warehouse logs, which only cover location layout changes.

Use handling unit pages when troubleshooting “which physical object holds this stock?” rather than editing product master data under Catalog.
